Ticket resales: Could you be due compensation?

1+ week, 4+ day ago (773+ words) Thousands of fans who paid over the odds for sold out gigs last year are likely to be keeping an eye on the news that some of the resale companies are now under investigation. The companies being probed by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) are StubHub, Viagogo, AA Driving School, BSM Driving School, Gold's Gym, Wayfair, Appliances Direct and Marks Electrical. It is the first time the CMA has used new consumer protection powers to launch an investigation into anti-competitive behaviour in the hopes of protecting consumers. The latest crackdown comes after it was revealed reselling tickets for profit is to be outlawed under plans due to be announced by the Government tomorrow…...

Biggest names in music press Government over ticket resale price cap

2+ week, 3+ day ago (956+ words) Some of the biggest names in music including Coldplay, Dua Lipa and Radiohead have urged the Government to honour a pledge to cap ticket resale prices. They have joined artists including The Cure's Robert Smith, New Order, Mark Knopfler, Iron Maiden, PJ Harvey and this year's Mercury Prize winner Sam Fender to sign a statement calling for a cap to "restore faith in the ticketing system" and "help democratise public access to the arts". In the statement, the coalition says new protections are needed to "help fix elements of the extortionate and pernicious secondary ticketing market that serve the interests of touts, whose exploitative practices are preventing genuine fans from accessing the music, theatre and sports they love". It adds: "For too long, certain resale platforms have allowed touts to bulk buy and then resell tickets at inflated prices, forcing…...

Resale of tickets above face value set to be outlawed under crackdown on touts

1+ week, 5+ day ago (556+ words) Reselling tickets for live events for profit is set to be banned by the Government. Ministers are expected to announce the plan to tackle touts and resale sites which offer tickets at several times" their face value. The Labour manifesto promised stronger protections to stop consumers being scammed or priced out of events by touts, who frequently use bots to buy tickets in bulk the moment they go on sale, which they can then sell on for huge mark-ups on secondary ticketing websites. A consultation on the changes had canvassed views on capping costs at up to 30% above the face value of a ticket. But reports in the Guardian and Financial Times revealed ministers were expected to set the limit at the face value, although fees could still be charged on top of that price. The Government declined to comment…...

A rash of ultra-chic new interiors shops are opening across London this month

3+ week, 2+ day ago (1324+ words) Quit online scrolling and start real-life strolling to find the best homeware If the thought of Black Friday and the short-lived deals on offer is already giving you anxiety, then why not block out the digital noise and shop in a more analogue way this year? Pounding the pavements instead of scrolling a screen, speaking to shopkeepers rather than chatbots and coming away with a considered purchase that is beautifully wrapped is far more gratifying than trying to locate exactly where that DPD delivery has ended up. After all, online returns cost you time (and retailers a fortune) and when it comes to homewares, it pays to see, touch and feel items in real life. No one wants to hold up a Post Office queue with a rug that didn't quite fit, or re-pack a lampshade that looked a completely…...

How Cos became one of the hottest brand's in the world

3+ week, 4+ day ago (449+ words) Each season has its hero brands. Saint Laurent's Le Loafers were on the wish lists of every fashion influencer a few months ago, and right now Chlo" is holding sway as its 2000's-loved Paddington bag is back on the arms of the style set. Though it might come as a shock to some that humble high street hero Cos has been named as one of the world's most desirable brands for the last quarter. Fashion insights site Lyst has released its report for Q3 (that's July to September) and Cos comes in at number three on the list of most-searched for brands, only beaten by Miu Miu and Saint Laurent, which takes the top spot. Interestingly, The Row, the Olsen sister-founded brand, ranks once place below Cos. The US label is perhaps the brand whose minimalist, muted accessories Cos's are most…...
